2026 Dog License Reminder and Information

January 8, 2026

The State of Maine requires that dogs be licensed in the town of residence of the owner. Each dog six months of age or older must be licensed.

Dog licenses expire on December 31st of each year.  New or renewed registration must occur at the Weld Town Office (23 Mill Street, Weld) prior to January 31st of the year or an additional late fee of $25 will be imposed.

The cost to register is $6.00 for an altered dog, $11.00 for an unaltered one. Registration fee for a kennel intended for 1-10 dogs costs $42 and must be inspected by the Animal Control Officer prior to licensing. Please contact Lise Bofinger (weldaco@weld-maine.org) for an appointment.

To receive a license, dog owners must show a State of Maine rabies certificate, a spayed or neutered certificate, and provide your dog’s veterinarian’s name and phone number (if this information isn’t already on file at the Clerk’s office).

IF YOU NO LONGER HAVE A DOG PLEASE NOTIFY THIS OFFICE.
