Motor Vehicle Registrations:
New Registrations: The Weld Town Office License Plates. When you purchase a new car, whether through a dealership or a private sale, the town office will process your whole transaction. You will need:
Title (signed) to the vehicle if it is 15 years or newer or MVT 2 blue application if purchased from a dealer
Bill of Sale or a previous State registration form Proof of Insurance
Check or Cash (The Weld Town Office does not except Debit or Credit Cards)
A standard Maine License Plate (Chickadee) = $25/year A Vanity Maine License Plate is an extra $15 per year.
All other Specialty plates (Loon, Lobster, Black Bear, UMO, etc.) are an extra
$15 per year.
You will leave the Weld Town Office with new license plates for your vehicle, a one-year registration form and stickers for the license plates.
The only plates that we can not issue are Vanity Plates. If you wish to have a Vanity Plate on your vehicle, you will have to FIRST come to the Weld Town Office and pay excise tax. We will issue you an excise tax receipt and then send you to a State of Maine BMV Branch (Mexico) to get Vanity Plates.
Renewal Registrations: Make sure you bring with you your proof of insurance, current mileage and cash or check.
Hunting and Fishing Licenses:
The town office can issue State of Maine Resident and Non-Resident Licenses.
To purchase a Maine Hunting License you need to supply your previous year's license, or we need to have a copy in our office/computer, or you need to show proof that you have completed a State of Maine Hunter's Safety course. The same rule applies to purchasing a Maine Archery License.

Junior Licenses are issued for youngsters 10 to 15 years old (16-year olds must obtain an adult license and provide proof of completion of the State of Maine Hunter's Safety Course).

Boat excise tax must be paid by a resident to the tax collector of their town before registration. A nonresident, prior to registering a motorboat which is located in Maine more than 75 days during a calendar year, must pay an excise tax to the Maine town where the boat is principally moored, docked or located. If the boat is exempt from tax, a tax exemption form must be completed by the owner and submitted with registration application and registration fee.
Proof of payment of sales tax is required for new registrations (resident and nonresident).
Watercraft registrations are issued for a specific calendar year and are valid through December 31st of the year issued.

Lake and River Protection Sticker required
You must pay a State Registration Fee, milfoil, and local Excise Tax, a $2 processing fee, and sales tax (currently 5% of the purchase price). You will need to have a bill of sale or the green dealer use tax certificate form from the boat dealership showing that they collected the sales tax.
Please bring paperwork in with you giving general information on the boat you are registering. On this registration there will be a Maine registration number assigned to your new boat which will have to be displayed. If you have purchased a boat that has been previously registered in Maine, please bring in the old registration form or the Maine registration numbers assigned to it. These registration numbers will be assigned to you in your ownership.

*Agents may charge a fee of $1.00 for renewals and duplicates, and $2.00 for new registrations, rollovers, or transfers.
1. All motorboats of any size, including airmobiles and personal watercraft, must be registered in Maine to be used on the waters of this State, except the following:
2. Watercraft required to have a valid marine document as a watercraft of the United States. Vessels over 5 net ton used for commercial fishing must be documented. Call the U.S. Coast Guard in Boston, Massachusetts at (617) 223-3030 for further information;
3. Watercraft with valid registration from another state, provided the watercraft registration number is displayed on the motorboat and the motorboat will not be in Maine over 60 consecutive days after the state of principal use has been changed;
4. Military or public watercraft, except recreational type watercraft of the United States;
5. A motorboat owned by the United States, a state, or subdivision thereof, which is used for governmental purposes and clearly identifiable as such;
6. A ship's lifeboat;
7. Motorboats from another country which are not within Maine over 60 consecutive days; and
8. Motorboats used exclusively for racing purposes and displaying a valid boat number issued by a recognized racing association.
Snowmobiles & ATV's:
The Weld Town Office processes resident as well as non-residents snowmobile registrations. Please bring paperwork in with you giving general information on the snowmobile you are registering.
New registrations are subject to 5% (of purchase price) Maine Sales Tax and a $2 processing fee. If you purchased your snowmobile from a dealership please make sure you bring the green dealer use tax certificate form with you.

*Agents may charge a fee of $1 for renewals and $2 for new registrations.
For registration period starting July 1, the registration fee will be $33 for a resident and $68 for a nonresident, plus the agent fee*.
New registrations only - Beginning May 1st of each year, registrations will be valid from the date of issue through June 30 of the following year.
All ATV registrations expire June 30.
Proof of payment of sales tax required on first time registrations or proof of prior registration (Maine residents only).
Reciprocity - Maine no longer has reciprocity with any state or province.

Filing Intentions of Marriage
The bride and groom must complete an Intention of Marriage form. The bride and groom’s signatures must be acknowledged before an official authorized to take oaths, e.g. notary public.
The marriage license is valid for 90 days from the date the intentions are filed.
No blood tests are required.
Record of Social Security Numbers
The bride and groom must file a Record of Social Security Numbers. This document is not for public inspection.
The filing fee is $30.00 ($15.00 per applicant).
If either the bride or groom has been previously married, a certified copy of the death or divorce decree, whichever ended the previous marriage, must be presented to the clerk where the intentions of marriage are filed. The certified copy must be presented to the clerk prior to the processing of the marriage license.
A certified copy of a divorce decree may be obtained from the clerk of courts in the county were the divorce was filed. The clerk of courts will certify the document using an embossed seal. Photocopies are not accepted.
A certified copy of a death certificate may be obtained from the clerk in the town/city of the place of death. The clerk will certify the document using an embossed seal. Photocopies are not accepted.
Step 1: The Bride and Groom must complete an Intentions of Marriage form and a Record of Social Security Numbers form at the office of the clerk where the intentions are filed.
The filing fee of $30.00 is paid at the time of filing.
The certified death/divorce decree(s), if applicable, is presented to the clerk at the time of filing. The marriage license will not be processed without the proper decree(s).
Proof of identity, e.g. driver's license, passport, state I.D. must be provided to the clerk at the time of filing.
Step 2: The marriage license is completed by the officiant legally qualified to perform a marriage in Maine, and signed by two witnesses. The officiant is required to file the license within 7 working days of the ceremony with the clerk where the license was issued.

Birth and Death Certificates:
Certified copies of birth and/or death records are available in the town of the place of event or the person's resident town. Copies are also available by contacting the Augusta Office of Vital Records.
Certified copies of birth/death records: $10 each
Additional copies of birth/death records (if ordered all at once): $5 each
All dogs 6 months and older must have a license. In order to obtain a license for your dog, the owner must present a current State of Maine Rabies Certificate obtained from a veterinarian. Also, bring with you, proof of spaying or neutering. If you have already shown proof to the Town Clerk's Office, then additional proof is not necessary.
Dog License Fees: $6.00 per year for spayed/neutered
$11.00 per year for dogs not spayed or neutered
$42.00 1-10 dogs, must be inspected by the ACO prior to licensing (including renewals)

Per state law, any dog license that is re-licensed after January 31 will be subject to a $15.00 late fee, a dog re-licensed after February 10 will be subject to a $25.00 late fee.
